How I created a Growth Info Product - Story of Growthfyi

Hello ! Who are you and what are you working on?

Hi! I'm Ankit, an organic growth enthusiast. So I've been an affiliate marketer since my college days and I always saw them as an affiliate I got a small commission while the company got the major chunk. Now I wanted to change my position here.

So after being an affiliate for 3 years, I now wanted to build my own audience and establish myself as someone who shares knowledge is a particular field/domain. So I started working towards my goal.

My goal was to build an audience to whom I can sell multiple times. So I started building Growthfyi, a platform where Indie Hackers and Solo Entrepreneurs come to fuel their venture with organic growth.

Now I had big ambitions for Growthfyi but I knew that validating my idea was much more essential. To do that I made a very small thing, headline formulas for landing page and much more and to my surprise, I got a great response.

So currently I have stopped marketing it and focusing more on building it. In future Growthfyi will cover everything(content marketing + UX for conversion + Outreach).

Here are few stuff I'm adding in the next big update:

  1. Headline Formulas (available in multiple languages)
  2. Email Templates
  3. Social Outreach Templates
  4. Landing Page Template (Design + Content)
  5. UX Tips for conversion.

I know I am not good at everything so I'm in talks with experts in the domains to join me on Growthfyi and help me build it. Hoping to push the full version of Growthfyi by June 21.

What motivated you to get started with? How did you come up with the idea?

Motivation and consistency is key to success. So I started seeing how some developers were building great products but fail to deliver their message.

Though they made beautiful landing page but the content didn't make any sense. I wanted to change everything.

My idea is to make organic growth easily understandable and implementable.

Can you tell us the story of your business from idea to where you are now?

Growthfyi started as a Substack Publication which talked about organic growth in startups, while writing on the publication I understood that I need to help businesses implement those.

So from there I got the idea that I need to build a digital product which helps makers by Rockstar's in organic growth.

What has been your biggest failure or struggle?

My biggest struggle is to be not lazy and stay focused. Also managing freelance projects along with my own projects gets tough.

How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?

I don't have any fixed working hours, it all depends upon my feelings.

Somedays I work for 0 hours and for somedays I work for 12 hours.

In general I start at 9am and work till 12pm, then I take a long break and again start at 5pm and keep pushing till 8-9pm.

Also during this time I keep my phone away, in fact my phone has been in silent mode for past 5 years. It really helps me get more of my time. I wear a fit band on which I get notification about Telegram(cause I get business texts there) and my work email. Rest all notifications are turned off.

And what has been your biggest achievement or success?

Though I haven't achieved much yet which is worth boasting. Still I fell honored to have made some great friends across the globe who have been helping me to be a prominent player and keep pushing.

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

To be frank I haven't focused much on marketing but Twitter has been a nice acquisition channel.

In future I'll start focusing more on IH and Reddit along with Twitter.

Describe the process of launching the business.

Idea > MVP > Validation > Soft Launch > Post Launch Development (Currently at this stage) > 2nd Validation > Hard Launch

Did you use Betalist or PH or other Startup Launching Platform for Launching ? How was that experience ?

I did use PH once and I had mixed feeling. So when I launched Growthfyi Headline Formulas on PH, I got enough upvotes and comments to be the 3rd or 4th product of the day but I ended up being 14th. Weird, isn't? Also it took me additional 6hrs to get featured on PH homepage.

Maybe I was unlucky or something also I'd say that PH and Betalist isn't the end of the world. The real validation occurs on the platform where your actual audience is.

What’s your business model, and how have you grown your revenue?

Currently only one-time payment but In future I'll think for something more consistent but nothing recurring for sure, I hate subscriptions.

What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced and obstacles you’ve overcome? What are your goals for the future?

Frankly, I don't think I can answer the first question as I haven't fully launched yet.

So for the second question, I already said above but I'll paste here too.

Let’s talk about your marketing strategy -- how do you market Growthfyi and grow the service?

I haven't focused much on marketing but I have big plans.

I want to focus on affiliates, content, community and email marketing.

Do you have a model to get product feedback? What’s your favorite way to get product feedback? Did product feedback help you get the results you hoped for ?

I really love feedbacks. I personally email all my customers and ask them on how to improve. Also in future I'll be using Feedback.Fish to get more feedbacks.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

Yeah.

  1. Making friends just digitally.
  2. Explaining about my products digitally.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

  1. Tweetastic (P.S. I'm biased as I'm building that too with Dimitri though I'm not a founder there)
  2. ZOHO Mail
  3. Notion
  4. SendFox
  5. Re:Plain
  6. Feedback.Fish
  7. Zapier

Who’s your most inspirational CEO or founder?

There are multiple in different niches.

  • Elon Musk for his bravery
  • Noah Kagan for his content
  • Julian for his growth strategies
  • Adriaan Rossum for being so down to earth and kind with his customers

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

  1. Bhagwat Gita
  2. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Been taught since my School Days)
  3. The Decision Book
  4. https://www.demandcurve.com/blog
  5. https://www.julian.com/

What’s your advice for fellow aspiring entrepreneur who are just starting out?

Just do it and don't think of consequences. Also don't reinvent the wheel that's already great but do try to make it better.
